Red-Shouldered Hawk Silk

$145.00

With its powerful wings creating a visible wind in the grassland as it rises, the red-shouldered hawk is a raptor that commands respect, moment to moment. To alight upon one of its boldly striped wing or tail feathers is a true consignment of vitality. A quiet and bold hunter, hawk reminds us that action always speaks louder than words, and that the world is a more beautiful place when we fully own our power. With excellent sight, hawk also embodies the principle of clarity and vision before action. This 20"x70" textile is printed on 100% silk chiffon and has a delicate hand-rolled hem. On the West coast, these forest raptors live in oak and riparian woodlands, eating small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and even other birds as large as a scrub jay! Look for males doing their sky dance during mating season, April-July, for their monogamous sweethearts. These birds are homebodies and love to live and raise their young in areas with a diversity of trees. The oldest known red-shouldered hawk lived to 25 years! Populations have decreased with deforestation.
