Fauna Solo Exhibition at E3 Gallery

New York, NY December, 2003

Fauna

Fauna is a series of photographs created in 2000-2001 in natural history museums, aquariums, and zoos. These animal portraits were taken as a reflection on our scientific worldview.  Natural history is defined as the scientific study of plants and animals in their natural environments, though many of our natural history museums fragment and separate life from the wilderness it belongs to.  Museums are a wonderful place to deepen knowledge of our world, and are a mirror of our complex relationship to it. I enjoyed taking these portraits as an exercise in honoring the animal kingdom from these strange and sacred catacombs of our empirical culture. This collection was exhibited as a solo show at the E3 Gallery in New York City in 2001. Images captured on 3200 speed film. 12”x18” silver gelatin prints are sepia toned on matte paper. Not for sale.
